FoFo
Every Monday I have been working with my new favorite Mexican boy. His name is Adolfo....he's eight and has Down Syndrome. His sister is a student in my class who told her mom I have a background in special education. It was very difficult to try and explain to this mom, in Spanish, that my background is working with students with learning and behavioral disabilities....not in working with students with severe needs. After much prayer, I realized I was supposed to work with this little guy. Mexico, unlike the U.S., does not have programs within public schools for kids with special needs. For many families, kids with special needs become a burden because the families can't afford to educate them. It is a sad occurrence here. I have been so thankful for my time working with Adolfo...who calls himself "FoFo"...and look forward to many times to come. We are currently working on numbers, shapes and colors in Spanish. My hope is that we will eventually work up to reading.....pray hard! Here's a picture of my little guy....he lit up when he saw the camera; the second is with me (he insisted....really!) Miss you all!
